Dec. 12, 2014: My poem “Building Forts” has been accepted by The Fourth River, a terrific journal of nature and place-based writing published by Chatham University’s MFA in Creative Writing Programs, for their forthcoming Spring 2015 issue.
Oct. 20, 2014: My short story “The Pub” has been accepted by Fourteen Hills: The San Francisco State University Review, to appear in their forthcoming Fall 2014 issue.
Aug. 20, 2014: After an eventful spring and summer, I have a number of news items to catch up on! Here goes:
I’ve been invited to lead a three-hour writing workshop at Shotpouch Cabin as the writing half of a “Working and Writing the Woods” Volunteer Work Party on Saturday, Sept. 20. The morning will involve some kind of work on Cabin property (I’ve helped with trail maintenance and planting trees in the past) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. My writing workshop will run after lunch from 2 to 5 p.m. I will be focusing on various aspects of place-based writing. All experience levels are welcome. Details on how to sign up will follow soon.
On a related note, my “WR 353 Writing About Places” online course is scheduled again this fall term through Oregon State University. Anyone meeting the prerequisites is welcome to enroll. I’m looking forward to having another terrific group of writers!
Regarding publications, the anthology Everywhere Stories from Press 53, which features one of my short stories set in Kazakhstan, is now available ahead of the originally scheduled publication date! You may order direct from the publisher, from Amazon, or from your favorite local bookstore.
My poem “New Channel” is to be published by the Spring Creek Project for Ideas, Nature, and the Written Word in an upcoming anthology of writers who have had residencies at the H. J. Andrews Experimental Forest.
The latest issue of Clackamas Literary Review (Vol. 18, 2014), with my long poem “Book of Lights,” is now out and available for order. My 2,163-word epic runs on pp. 114–127.
And finally (for now), here’s a fun publication to announce: my “Wrules of Righting: Two Decades of Personal Thoughts, Notes, Creeds, and Philosophies on Writing and Life” is to be published by the Cambridge Writers’ Workshop in Credo: An Anthology of Manifestos & Sourcebook for Creative Writing. Other writers whose work has been accepted for the anthology include David Shields, Peter Mountford, Kathleen Spivack, Maya Sonenberg, and Nicole Walker.
Jan. 30, 2014: I have some good news to start off the new year: my short story “A Husband and Wife Are One Satan,” which originally appeared in Potomac Review, has been selected to appear later this year in the anthology Everywhere Stories: Short Fiction from a Small Planet, to be published by Press 53 and edited by Clifford Garstang.
