I was fortunate to visit Kyrgyzstan on
three different occasions for my work, first as a consultant with the Academy
for Educational Development and twice again as manager of the Edmund
S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program. Work didn’t allow much
time to explore the country, but my wife and I were able to make a side
trip to the famed (at least in that part of the world) Lake Issyk Kul and
cover the capital, Bishkek, in the evenings. Despite a revolution that
briefly brought it world attention (and which I found myself in the midst
of on my third visit), Bishkek is a friendly, laid-back city, one of our
favorites in Central Asia. And it’s home to the best pizza I’ve ever
tasted, at Dolce Vita. |
